Health and physical education is one of the 8 key learning areas and reflects the dynamic and multi-dimensional nature of health and recognises the significance of physical activity in the lives of individuals and groups in contemporary Australian society.
Health and physical education provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge, processes, skills and attitudes necessary for making informed decisions about:
- promoting the health of individuals and communities
- developing concepts and skills for physical activity
- enhancing personal development.
Integral to health and physical education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities. Movement is a powerful medium for learning, through which students can acquire, practise and refine personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills.
